MARTINEZ
Martinez Cocktail
1 ½ oz gin
1 ½ oz Italian vermouth
2 barspoons maraschino liqueur
2 dashes Fee’s orange bitters
stir with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass Jerry Thomas’ Recipe is as follows:
Martinez Cocktail.
~(Use small bar-glass.)
~Take 1 dash of Boker’s bitters.
~2 dashes of Maraschino.
~ 1 pony of Old Tom gin.
~ 1 wine-glass of Vermouth.
~ 2 small lumps of ice.
Shake up thoroughly, and strain into a large cocktailglass.
Put a quarter of a slice of lemon in the glass, and serve.
If the guest prefers it very sweet, add two dashes of gum syrup.

Thanks Jamie for Martinez! It is my first “great” cocktail probably. I found this post on 2006 and I started to collect my bar and improve my bar-knowledge. And now I offer my version – without orange bitters but with lemon-lime vermouth:

Try this: For the sweet vermouth: Punt E Mes, for the bitters: Fee Brothers Aztec Chocolate Bitters(two dashes) and Orange Bitters(one dash), Navy Strength Gin adds a little something to the enterprise as well.
