My Future’s So Bright….

File this post under: Yeeeeeeeeeha!

After much ballyhoo and consternation I’ve finally received my alembic still. There was a moment when, after seeing repeated messages from UPS that my still had been seized by customs as an illegal alcohol shipment, I thought that I would never get the damn thing, but lo and behold, when I arrived home from work last night, there it was at my door, waiting for me like an obedient pet.

The question now is, after I’ve experimented with orange flower water and violette water (which will lead to violette liqueur) what comes next? Gin? Absinthe? My own proprietary Chartreuse or Benedictine? (Boudreau’s Benedictine does have a nice ring to it). Good Lord, the possibilities are only held back by the amount of free time I have in a day (which as of right now equals about zero).

Once I get the thing primed, read up on every tome that I can get my hands on regarding distillation, and find a remote spot in the woods where the government won’t bother me (the Yukon?), I’ll post about my experiments.

Wish me luck…..

  1. Nice!

Damn that’s pretty. Best of luck with that! I’ll have to make a trip up to Vessel once you’ve got some product.

  2. Wow that looks brilliant. Can’t wait to see what spirits you manage to work up with that thing!

  3. I’ve been thing about getting one of these too. I’m just not sure I have the time to play endlessly with ti.

  4. I think I literally turned green with envy!

  5. Lucky you! Just be carefully what to distill – you definitely know that some compounds in distillation are harmful and you need to cut the heads and the tails off!

I don’t think, that infusions (with already distilled alcohol) have this kind of problems…

How much volume does have your still?

    Cheers!
