Portland Watering Holes etc
Portland is a mere two and a half hour drive from Seattle, and on occasion I’m able to escape to Washington’s Mexico. While there I stop at the bars listed below, and can occasionally set up a tasting or tour at one of the distilleries mentioned below. Oh, and I like to harass the editors of my favorite magazine when I get the chance as well. Follow my footsteps with the map provided below.

There use to be a good tiki bar on the east side of the river, not sure if it’s still there/good? Also what about the Whiskey Bar at Pok Pok?
You might want to add Carlyle and Secret Society. Whiskey Soda Lounge at Pok Pok is nice, as is Victory Bar. As far as tiki, maybe you mean Thatch up on E Broadway?
We were just at Thatch last week (Early Oct 2009) it is still there and amazing as ever. Zorn, Heather and Angie are just the nicest people that make wonderful drinks. Go around 4 or 5 pm before it gets really busy and they will chat about the drinks as much as you like. When we drive down to PDX thatch is our home away from home.
Also, Horse Brass is a great pub with really good beer and food. http://www.horsebrass.com/
I just stumbled across this page, but you may consider trying Branch the next time you’re in town. It’s at NE 29th & NE Alberta. It’s a lovely place. http://branchwhiskeybar.com/
And the Tea Zone for unique tea cocktails too!
Jake’s Famous Crawfish (401 SW 12th Ave) has two beautiful mahogany bars, one in front and one in the back. I prefer the one in the back. It’s small, classy and you’ll get personal attention. Not to mention a fine cocktail.

There’s a relatively new Speakeasy on SW Ankeny called Central. It’s right down the alley from Voodoo Doughnuts. Next time you come to portland be sure to check it out.
